Nagel Build News

Hello Everyone,

It’s only been a couple weeks since we came together and built the walls for two Habitat for Humanity homes, but I already have an exciting update! I would like to introduce you to Leslie (See attached PDF. She is receiving the walls that we built and shipped off to Delaware County, OH which is north of Columbus. You can read a little bit about her and her family. This home will bless her in so many ways. Thanks again for being willing to serve in such a meaningful way.

Groundbreaking

Groundbreaking

Attached are pictures from this morning’s groundbreaking ceremony in Hammond, LA. It was a very special occasion because members of St. Luke Lutheran Church (Leda Thompson’s church) from Cabot, PA were in attendance. They partnered with Crossroads Missions to build the house frame in their church parking lot last September not knowing which family would actually get to live in it. This morning 6 members of that church were present to meet Chanta Bryant and her 2 sons, Travion Robertson and Charles Bryant. Chanta is a single mom who works for Urgent Healthcare in Hammond. Travion is a senior at Ponchatoula High School where he plays football, participates in Interact and other organizations. His dedication has earned him an academic scholarship to Millsaps College in Jackson, MS where he plans to major in premed. Charles is in 5th grade. The house they were living in was flooded in March of 2016 and then mold took over. Getting a new home in partnership with The Fuller Center for Housing means the world to them!

Also attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Pete Panepinto, Mayor and Lisa Lambert, Public Information Officer for the City of Hammond; Glen Alack, pro bono general contractor overseeing the Fuller Center’s work; Ginger Ford Northshore Fuller Center Board Chairman David Danel and Board Member Bobby Martin, Construction Managers James Harris and Gary Kelly, Tamara Danel, Executive Director, Christine Kelly, Administrative Assistant; volunteers from Christ our Anchor Presbyterian Church in Annapolis, MD; Barry Chance, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hammond; and Quad Area Youth Build students and staff who will complete the construction of the house.

“This was the first time we have ever had representatives from all the volunteer components together for a groundbreaking ceremony” Tamara Danel exclaimed.  “Who would have ever thought that the volunteers from Pennsylvania who built the frame in their church parking lot would get to meet the family who will live in it and the volunteers who will complete it!”

Chanta Bryant and her 2 boys are truly grateful for all the people who will help them finally have a home of their own!

2020 HOUSING VISION: A Commonwealth whose every citizen has a safe, decent, energy-efficient, affordable place to live.

Kentucky Habitat for Humanity announced the launch of 2020 HOUSING VISION, a three-year, multi-partner, collaborative affordable housing initiative by HOUSING PROVIDERS WORKING TOGETHER to improve the lives of Kentuckians in need of which Help Build Hope is one of the founding partners.

The project was announced during a press conference and rally for affordable housing in the Kentucky State Capitol Rotunda February 5, 2018.

“2020 HOUSING VISION is a call to action for Kentuckians,” said 2020 HOUSING VISION Director, Mindy Shannon Phelps. “It’s a call for ADVOCACY, COMPASSION and CONSTRUCTION of affordable housing not just for some, but for all our neighbors in need.”

2020 HOUSING VISION was launched because THE NEED IS SO GREAT – one in four Kentucky families faces the threat of poverty housing. One quarter of the state's 4.4 million residents need help.   U.S. Census data indicates more than a million people - nearly 1.2 million Kentuckians – do not have access to affordable housing.

For Kentucky’s children, the reality is especially dire.  While one of every five children in the United States lacks adequate resources and lives in poverty, in Kentucky, it’s one in every four.

2020 HOUSING VISION was launched by Kentucky Habitat for Humanity in collaboration with dozens of affordable housing advocates - supporters and providers – who have joined together because they know there is greater STRENGTH IN NUMBERS.

“Kentucky Habitat for Humanity believes in the power of partnership,” said Kentucky Habitat Board President and 2020 HOUSING VISION Chairman Lyle S. Hanna.  “No single housing provider can eliminate poverty housing.  But working together, we can do more than has ever been accomplished before.”

2020 HOUSING VISION was launched in 2018 and will continue through 2020.  The project partners hope to establish a sustainable MODEL OF COLLABORATIVE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING development that can be implemented anywhere.

Fuller Center

“ Help Build Hope has been the cornerstone of new house building for Fuller Center covenant partners throughout the US. Their partnering with churches and organizations to provide wall packages for our new home building program has been one of our biggest resources. The value of their partnership has been a significant part of our ability to keep moving forward in providing housing solutions for low-income families.”
